Tobermory, Ontario
Tobermory, a small tourist town, is located at the northern end of the Bruce Penninsula, which separates Lake Huron and Georgian Bay. Home port to the ferry which takes tourists to Manitoulin Island. Tobermory, is best known for the numerous well preserved wrecks, located in two Marine parks.
There are numerous charter boats available to take divers out to the wrecks. The Dawnlight (above,middle) Tobermory's first liveaboard, and the Mamie, are examples.
Bear's Rump Island has one of the deeper sites available to explore, the Forest City, a wooden steamer slammed into the island in heavy fog, then, after attempts to free her failed, slid down to 155 ft. The Caves are popular from sea and shore alike. Tobermory boasts one of Canada's longest unexplored cave systems.
With depths of several hundred feet deep, these waters attract many Technical Divers. There are several areas where dives can be 300 ft. or greater. Only highly trained cold water divers should attempt such dives.
